Bank Card Frozen After Binance Withdrawal? Don't Panic — Here's What to Do

· ~ 14 min read · CryptoPort Editorial

Your Bank Card Suddenly Stops Working

Some users sell USDT on Binance P2P, receive the RMB normally, and everything seems fine. But days or even weeks later, their bank card suddenly stops working — transfers fail, ATMs won't dispense cash, and mobile banking shows an account status error. A trip to the bank reveals the card has been frozen.

The first reaction is naturally panic. But there's something important to understand: a frozen bank card doesn't mean you've committed a crime. In the vast majority of cases, you simply received "problematic" money through a P2P transaction — the funds' upstream may be linked to fraud or gambling, and when police trace the money trail, they reach your card. You're an innocent link in the chain, but your card did come into contact with case-related funds.

Take a deep breath and follow these steps — most situations can be resolved.

First, Determine What Type of Freeze It Is

There are two main types of bank card freezes, and the solutions are completely different.

The first type is a bank-initiated risk control freeze. The bank's anti-money laundering monitoring system detected unusual transaction patterns — such as frequent transfers from different strangers in a short period, or fund inflow patterns that drastically differ from your normal income level. The bank proactively restricts your account and requires you to visit a branch to verify your identity and explain the source of funds.

The second type is a judicial freeze. This happens when police discover case-related funds passed through your bank card during an investigation and apply for a freeze order from the court. Judicial freezes typically have a defined duration, most commonly six months.

The difficulty gap between these two types is significant. Bank risk control freezes are relatively easy to resolve — bring your ID to the branch, explain the situation, and it may be resolved the same day. Judicial freezes are more complex, requiring cooperation with police, and resolution can take weeks to months.

How to Determine Which Type

The most direct method is calling your bank's customer service. They'll tell you the reason and nature of the freeze. For a bank risk control freeze, they'll typically say "Your account has unusual transactions; please visit a branch with your ID." For a judicial freeze, they'll provide the name and contact information of the freezing authority (usually a local public security bureau's economic crime or criminal investigation division).

You can also visit a bank branch in person. The staff can see the specific freeze details in the system.

Handling a Bank Risk Control Freeze

This is relatively straightforward. Bring your ID to the branch that issued the card and tell the staff you need to verify your account. The bank may ask about your recent transactions and fund sources. Answer honestly, but be mindful of your wording — you don't need to proactively mention "cryptocurrency" or "Bitcoin." You can describe these as normal personal fund transfers.

After verification, the restriction is usually lifted on the spot or within a few business days. In some cases, the bank may ask you to sign a commitment letter or provide a brief statement — just cooperate.

Handling a Judicial Freeze

Judicial freezes require more effort but aren't unsolvable.

First, using the information provided by the bank, contact the police department that froze your card. Call them, identify yourself, and learn what case your card is connected to and what cooperation they need. Typically, police will ask you to provide: your identity information, an explanation of the fund source, and relevant transaction records and evidence.

The most critical step is preparing all your transaction evidence. Log in to your Binance App and screenshot all relevant P2P transaction records — order details, counterparty information, chat logs, transaction times and amounts. If you've already deleted the App, re-download and install it via Binance official to check your records. Also save your bank transfer records. These materials prove your fund transfers were normal trading activity.

When cooperating with police during questioning, explain honestly. You conducted a legitimate trade on a proper trading platform, the counterparty transferred money and you received it. You didn't know and couldn't have known whether the funds were problematic. Be sincere, cooperative, and submit complete documentation.

Judicial freezes have a statutory duration, typically six months. If the case doesn't require further action after expiry, the freeze automatically lifts. If the case is still under investigation and requires continued freezing, police can apply for an extension.

Do You Need a Lawyer?

If the frozen amount is small and only one card is involved, handling it yourself with police cooperation is usually sufficient. But consider consulting a lawyer familiar with cryptocurrency-related law if: the frozen amount is substantial, multiple bank cards are involved, police are unfriendly or their requests exceed your understanding, or the freeze has lasted too long with no progress.

Legal fees aren't cheap, but having a professional's help in complex situations can prevent missteps or saying the wrong thing during an investigation.

How to Reduce Future Freeze Risk

After experiencing a freeze, be even more careful with future withdrawals. Core principles: only trade with reputable verified merchants, use a dedicated bank card for receiving funds rather than your primary card, control transaction amounts and frequency, and don't immediately transfer large sums after receiving money.

These preventive measures are covered in more detail in other articles. Many people actually develop better risk management habits after experiencing a freeze and never get frozen again.

Log in to or register your Binance account through Binance official, and implement the preventive measures described above for future withdrawals — the probability of a freeze can be reduced to very low levels. A frozen card is certainly an annoyance, but as long as you haven't participated in illegal activities, patience and proper handling will eventually resolve it.
