Binance Account Hacked? Do These Steps Immediately

· ~ 14 min read · CryptoPort Editorial

The Moment You Discover It Determines Your Losses

An account hack doesn't happen slowly — it often takes just minutes to complete. Login, change security settings, withdraw assets. The window between when you notice something wrong and when the hacker finishes could be just a few short minutes.

So when you spot any suspicious signs, speed is everything. Don't hesitate, don't assume "it's probably just a system glitch." Execute the steps below first, then investigate once your account is secured.

Warning Signs Your Account May Be Compromised

Before diving into the response plan, here are the signals that indicate your account might be in trouble:

You Receive a Withdrawal Confirmation Email You Didn't Initiate

This is the most dangerous signal. If a withdrawal confirmation email appears in your inbox that you never initiated, someone is attempting to move your assets.

You Receive a Login Alert That Wasn't You

Binance sends email alerts when a new device logs in. If you receive one from an unfamiliar location or device, someone has obtained your password.

Security Settings Were Changed Without Your Knowledge

You discover that Google Authenticator was unlinked, withdrawal addresses were changed, or there's a new API key you don't recognize. All of these mean someone else has taken control of your account.

Account Balance Dropped Unexpectedly

You're certain you didn't trade or withdraw, but your account balance has decreased.

Step 1: Freeze Your Account Immediately

This is the most critical action. Binance offers a one-click freeze feature that disables all trading, withdrawals, and security setting changes.

Freeze Via the App

If you can still log in to the Binance App, go to "Profile" > "Security" and find the "Disable Account" option. Tap to confirm. Make sure you're using the latest App version via Binance official.

Freeze Via Email

If you can't log in to the App, check your inbox for a Binance login alert email. At the bottom, there's usually a link that says "If this wasn't you, click here to disable your account." Click it to freeze immediately.

Freeze Via the Website

Go to the Binance login page on the website, click "Security Issue" or related options, and follow the prompts to freeze your account.

Once frozen, the hacker can't perform any operations. While you also temporarily lose access, at least your assets are safe.

Step 2: Change All Passwords

Change Your Binance Password

If you can still log in, change your password immediately. The new password must be completely different from the old one and must not be one you've used on any other platform.

Change Your Email Password

Your registered email may also have been compromised — this is often how hackers gain access to your Binance account. Change your email password immediately and check for login history and forwarding rules (some hackers set up email forwarding to continue intercepting your verification codes).

Change Passwords on Other Accounts Using the Same Password

If you've used the same password on other platforms, change them all. Password breaches are rarely isolated incidents.

Step 3: Review Account Activity

After freezing your account, log in to Binance and check the following:

Withdrawal History

Review recent withdrawals and confirm whether any were unauthorized. Note the time, amount, and destination address of suspicious withdrawals.

API Keys

Go to the API management page and check for any unfamiliar API keys. Hackers may use APIs to control your account. Delete all suspicious keys.

Logged-In Devices

In device management, review all devices and IP addresses that have accessed your account. Remove any you don't recognize.

Security Setting Changes

Check whether Google Authenticator, phone binding, email binding, or other security settings have been modified.

Step 4: Contact Binance Support

After completing the self-rescue steps above, contact Binance official support for follow-up.

How to Reach Support

The Binance App has a live chat feature, and you can also submit a ticket through the Help Center on the website. Only contact through official channels — don't trust any "Binance support" accounts on social media, as many scammers impersonate support staff for secondary fraud.

Information to Provide

  • Your account (email or phone number)
  • Specific times and descriptions of suspicious activity
  • Transaction IDs and destination addresses of suspicious withdrawals
  • ID document photos to verify your identity

Chances of Recovering Funds

Honestly, if assets have already been withdrawn to the hacker's external wallet, recovery chances are very low. The irreversible nature of cryptocurrency means transactions can't easily be reversed once completed. However, if assets are still within the Binance platform (for example, if they couldn't be withdrawn before the freeze), recovery is possible.

Step 5: Security Hardening Before Unfreezing

After confirming the security issue has been resolved, you can request to unfreeze your account. But before unfreezing, make sure to complete these security upgrades:

  • Set a completely new strong password
  • Re-bind Google Authenticator and save the backup key
  • Enable the anti-phishing code
  • Set up a withdrawal address whitelist
  • Delete all unnecessary API keys
  • Verify the security of your registered email

Accounts registered through Binance official have access to all of Binance's security features. If you're only now realizing the importance of security settings after reading this article, go set them up now — don't wait until something happens.

How to Prevent Getting Hacked

Prevention is always better than emergency response. Here are the key security recommendations:

First, use a unique strong password that you don't share with any other platform.

Second, enable all available security verifications — Google Authenticator, email verification, SMS verification.

Third, set up an anti-phishing code and never click suspicious links.

Fourth, never enter your password or verification codes in front of anyone, and don't share screenshots of your account information.

Fifth, regularly check your account's logged-in devices and security settings.

Your asset security depends on your own security awareness. Exchanges provide the tools, but the ultimate responsibility for security rests with you.
